I love Sewing. I’ve been doing it since I was big enough to use my Gran’s treadle sewing machine. Watching her create new outfits for my Barbie doll was the bees knees for me. I knew then and there that this is what I wanted to do. I started creating outfits for all my dolls and various stuffed toys – some by hand and some by my Mum’s electric sewing machine. When she and my sister arrived home from a day out and found me sitting in a dress that she didn’t buy for me, that I had completely made whilst they were out, she realized that this wasn’t a passing phase.

Fast forward a few years and I started working at a local theatre in town. I was lucky to be able to perform on stage but was more fascinated by the costumes that we were wearing. I started helping out our wonderful costume lady at the theatre as well as lending my talent to amateur theatre groups around Brisbane. It gave me more joy costuming a show over performing in it. Our wonderful costume lady, who is one of my dearest friends, suggested I apply for NIDA. Being taught by experts in their fields was a dream come true. I was exposed to new avenues of wardrobe that I never knew. And I loved it. After my three years in Sydney, I returned to Brisbane with my BDA in Costume Construction. I’ve worked on TV and film sets, but nothing beats the theatre. After being one of the resident costume designers for The Arts Theatre in Brisbane, I left to start my new life at the Sunshine Coast. I’m still settling in, but itching to something theatrical very soon!
